School of Advanced Studies

Dr. Judith Barak
Head of the School

The School of Advanced Studies is an expanding school that offers M.Ed. Programs for practicing teachers. Today, July 2013, there are three ongoing programs: Educational Counseling, Learning and Instruction and Inclusive Physical Education.
The M. Ed. Programs cater the needs of academic professional development for teachers in the southern part of Israel and beyond. Teachers from across the system K-12, special education and physical education teachers, Jewish and Arab students all participate in our programs and study together. We enable our students to become producers of knowledge in their different areas of specialization, and to influence the schools and the systems they are part of. Our graduates have been gaining excellent reputation in their communities for being knowledgeable and proactive professionals. The Educational counselors serve the needs of schools in the area, especially in the Bedouin educational system.

 The programs

  Educational Counseling

Head: Dr. Smadar
Ben Asher

The Educational Counseling Program educates proactive professionals to counsel in the contexts of personal and systemic needs. It emphasizes the moral and emotional responsibilities of the profession towards the well-being of students in schools. The program is aligned with the professional requirements of the Israeli Association for Psychological Counseling and the Association of Educational Counselors.

  Learning and Instruction

Head: Dr. Judith Barak The Learning and Instruction Program is focused on processes of knowledge production by practicing teachers. The participants inquire into the complexities of learning and teaching; they are studying their practice and vision of teaching, and conceptualize their experiences in light of theoretical knowledge. The program empowers the graduates to become pedagogical leading teachers in their schools.

  Inclusive Physical Education

Dr. Felix Lebed and
Prof. Arnon Edelstein
The program of Inclusive Physical Education aims at developing social leadership among Physical Education teachers. It offers Physical Education teachers to learn and experience the multiple facets of excluded and at-risk communities, and provides physical education competencies and methods to re-include members of these communities within the society.
